Pastoral management

Pastoral management is a professional development program for senior abbots and nuns of the UGCC and RCC, directors of regional organizations Caritas Ukraine and Caritas Spes, as well as heads of church institutions.

The program offers an innovative view of pastoral activity and its role in social service. During the study you will:
• learn how to administrate church property by combinating modern techniques of management and the social doctrine of the Church;
• master skills of economic, financial modeling and management;
• learn how to manage the strategic priorities of church organizations and innovate in pastoral care;
• develop your leadership and team management skills.

To complete the program you must create a social project from scratch or implement the innovative approach to your church organization activities.

About the program

This program is right for you if you are:

• a supreme abbot of a monastic order or a congregation of the UGCC and RCC, and you seek to make the management structure effective;
• a director of regional organizations Caritas Ukraine and Caritas-Spes, and you are convinced that standard approaches to managing the organization no longer work;
• a head of a church institution and you are responsible for establishing effective work, e.g. chancellor, economist, head of department;
• an innovator, and you seek to launch or develop social entrepreneurship and social innovation in church organizations.

Training format:

Training format: 6 training modules, each 2 days long, with an interval of 1 month.

Program structure

Module 1:

Planning The Pastoral Needs Of The Community

  • Formation of pastoral activity today
  • Church safe administration and pastoral administration
  • Strategic pastoral planning of parishes, dioceses and church organizations
  • Strategies and methods that exist for the public: necessary trends, necessary and expected
  • Trust page analysis as a tool to expand change and build the right development strategy
  • What should you consider in order to develop a more detailed work strategy?
  • Goals really first?
  • Review your strategy: what exactly do we review and how often? Presentation of the Leonardo method.
Module 2:

Finances. Fundraising

  • Accounting and financial reporting
  • Cost management, budgeting and investment evaluation
  • Economics and management of church assets: legal, administrative and tax aspects
  • Canonical foundations of church property management
  • Documents of the Holy See “Economics in the service of charisma and mission”, as well as the document Oeconomicae et denniaariae quaestiones
  • Spirituality and fundraising practice
  • Where to start a crowdfunding campaign and how to successfully complete it
  • Project financing: search for economic resources through fundraising campaigns and participation in local, national and European competitions.
  • Involve businesses as partners and donors in the charity project
  • Presentation of grant programs open to church organizations. How to prepare a successful application.
Module 3:

Creation and management of a social enterprise

  • Model of social entrepreneurship: theory and practice
  • Creating a social enterprise: opportunities, limitations, procedures and models
  • Components of business design: business model, value Support, people’s formula
  • Roadmap: seven steps from idea to business
  • Cost offer. Work to be done.
  • Business model: components and stages
  • Hypothesis testing tools and plan
  • MVP and prototype
  • Team – People – Partners
  • Understanding of the customer. Conduct a structured interview with the client.
  • Hypothesis testing tools and plan.
  • Create an information panel of key indicators that reflect the progress of the project
  • Business plan and management of economic resources.
  • Development of projects of social enterprises and preparation of a step.
Module 4:

Managerial skills and team management

  • Personnel planning and management.
  • Team building: distribution of roles in teams, making team decisions, reaching consensus.
  • Organizational culture as a system of managerial decision-making. Talent management. Human development.
  • Decision making and spiritual understanding
  • Burnout, stress and conflict management
  • Pleasure and participation are the difference.
  • Communication and feedback settings.
  • Recent approaches to teamwork.
Module 5:

Internal and external communications

  • Communication strategies and methods for raising awareness of the theological and ecclesiastical foundations of the Church’s economic support
  • Update pastoral and communication strategies in the light of new technologies
  • Digital communication: the potential of the Internet and social networks in times of crisis (economic, social, cultural, human)
  • Digital marketing and customer relationship management
  • The concept of emotional intelligence. Empathy and its influence on communication in church institutions.
  • Productive and destructive emotions
  • Effective communication. Conducting working meetings and gatherings;
  • Psychology of negotiations. The role of negotiations for the university: purpose, tools, format
